Artist’s Bio

Susan Hoffmann, a Wisconsin textile artist, began exploring fiber arts approximately 10 years ago. Though she loved the learning process, she did not find anything she was truly passionate about until she took a landscape quilting class in 2008. As her first piece began to take shape, she realized it looked like a watercolor painting and was more deserving of a frame than a quilting needle! Shortly after returning from the class, Susan convinced her husband to build her a studio in their home where she continues to perfect the design and construction processes to create her unique kind of art.

Artist’s Statement

My goal is to create art that represents the world around me, using fabrics to “fool the eye.” When a viewer first approaches my work, I want them to think they are looking at a painting. And then, I want them to be completely amazed when they realize the piece has actually been created by layering hundreds of intricately cut pieces of fabric! When someone asks me why I choose to work in textiles, I tell them we are all connected to fiber – we wear it, we sleep on it, we rely on it for many different daily needs. My textile art is an extension of that connection.
